The walk begins at the beach of Stavros. Leaving the sea behind us, we start gently through olive groves — a centuries-old cultivated landscape that still shapes the rhythm of this region today.

A soft introduction, allowing time to arrive and slow down.Gradually, the path leads downhill. We follow an old monks’ path winding through the landscape, step by step taking us deeper into the hills. Along the way, we pass caves once used by hermits, quiet places of retreat set into rock and nature.

Deep below, hidden between the mountains, we reach the old Katholiko Monastery. It is considered one of the oldest monasteries on Crete, founded in the 11th century. Today, Katholiko stands abandoned — a place of silence, where stone walls and arches still speak of a simple, ascetic life far removed from the world.Near the old monastery, there is the opportunity to swim in a beautiful, secluded bay. From here, we continue through the wild, unspoiled landscape of Crete.

The gorge guides us quietly onward, far from well-known routes, until we eventually return to Stavros, where the walk ends back by the sea — time to swim, relax, and unwind after this special journey.
